Postseason: What to expect at Prelims, Finals, and All-Stars

We’re almost there! Here’s some vital info about PRELIMS.

  • Prelims will be held at: New Territory Pool, 1200 Walker School Rd., Sugar Land, TX 77479
  • All swimmers will swim all strokes at this meet, however there will be no relays.
  • 10 and under swimmers to be at the pool @ 7:00am Thursday, 10 July for hand marking and warm-ups. We are 2nd warm up from 7:25 to 7:50am.
  • Prelims will start @ 8:00 and last until about 10:30 for the 10 & under age group.
  • Swim-offs will occur for any 16th place tie and the 2nd alternate at any time during the meet as long as sufficient rest is given to the swimmers – time will determine the swim-off- not a touch call. The swimmer’s original time will be what is used to seed FINALS heats.
  • 11 and older swimmers will must be @ the New Territory Pool by 3:45pm for hand marking and warm-ups.
  • Our warm-up time slot is 4:25 to 4:50pm. This half of PRELIMS begins @ 5:00pm.
  • This half of the meet should last until about 8:00pm.

Remember that we run the league on volunteers, so find a person in a QVST shirt and ask them what kind of help they need. The more hands we have on deck, the faster all of this will go!

Also, remember to BE POSITIVE AND CHEER! It makes all of the difference in the world to our swimmers.

SHRSL League finals will be held @ the Don Cook Natatorium, 16255 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77479. This is really great news! It means that we can’t be rained out! Details are as follows:

  • NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY WILL BE ALLOWED! This is a big deal as the flash from your cameras and phones will interfere with the starting and timing equipment in the natatorium.
  • The nat opens to computer volunteers @ 6:00am so that they can set up for the meet.
  • Swimmers should be at the pool ready to go by 7:00am. The meet will begin @ 8:00am.
  • Pool will be set up the day before from noon to 2:00pm. Each team must send 2 volunteers who can swim and are willing to get in the water to move lane ropes. It’s a great opportunity for a couple of Open Swimmers to see how the nat is set up before the racing the next day. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Kyle Jones.
  • Only 2 coaches, the swimmers, and the meet volunteers (timers, stroke judges, etc.) will be allowed on the pool deck during the meet. Parents and other volunteers must remain in the stands.
  • Only bottled water will be allowed on the pool deck. Food, sports drinks, etc., are not permitted on the pool deck. Swimmers wanting a bite to eat or something other than water to drink must go outside or into the stands to eat and drink during the meet.
  • Nobody will be using starting blocks during finals.

This will be an exciting meet and a chance for our fastest swimmers to test their skills against swimmers from all over the league. Remember to show good sportsmanship in the pool and out and, as always, GO DOLPHINS!

The All Star meet will be held at the Don Cook Natatorium, 16255 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77479. This is great for our advancing swimmers because there won’t be any cancellations due to rain and our swimmers will already be familiar with the facility. Some important notes on All Stars:

  • All swimmers will start off of starting blocks for All Stars. This is a little different than what the swimmers are used to, particularly our 10 and under swimmers. There will be a starting block practice on Monday, 14 July 2014 at the nat from 6:30 to 7:30pm. All 10 and under swimmers will practice from 6:30pm to 7:00pm. 11 and up will practice from 7:00pm to 7:30pm. A coach must be present during this practice!
  • Swimmers who place 1st in their events @ finals will automatically advance to All Stars.
  • Call-ups will be listed on the SHRSL website sometime after noon on Sunday, 13 July 2014.
  • There will be 12 call-ups for individual events and 4 call-ups for relays.
  • IMPORTANT NOTICE: If your swimmer is at finals but will not be available for All Stars, you must let Coach Isbell know. This is very important because it determines who the league can consider for call-ups. This is particularly important if your swimmers wins his / her race but will not be available to attend All Stars the following Tuesday.

On behalf of the QVST board, GOOD LUCK to all of our swimmers in the postseason. Remember: KEEP CALM AND SWIM ON!!!
